Haplogroup G testing
Haplogroup G appears to have originated in the Caucasus Mountains on the border of Europe and Asia. It is found today at very high frequencies in that region, but is also dispersed across a wide area of the Near East and Europe and even to present day Pakistan. The frequency of haplogroup G declines to the North in Europe consistent with spread by farmers in the Neolithic period starting 10,000 years ago.
This product will be of interest to those who have strong evidence from previous DNA testing (Y-SNP or Y-STR markers) that they belong to the haplogroup G.
EthnoAncestry offers two testing options for haplogroup G:
- G Subgroup Test
- Pick your own SNP cafeteria style
G Subgroup Test
This product tests M201, the marker which defines the G group and the most important downstream markers.
P15 is a marker for haplogroup G2, the most common subtype of G, indicating ancient ancestry in the Caucasus region.
M377 (defining haplogroup G5) has been observed among a number of Ashkenazi Jews as well as in Pakistan.
EthnoAncestry are pleased to include a variety of recently discovered SNPs that allow us to define numerous subgroups of G2: S126, S130, S131, S132, S133, S134 or S135.
The full list of Y-SNPs tested in the G subgroup test is as follows:
M201, M285, P20, P15, P16, P18, M286, M287, M377, M406, S126, S130, S131, S132, S133, S134 and S135.
You will receive an official certificate depicting the results of your testing.
