Haplogroup I2b testing
Haplogroup I2b* appears to have originated near modern day Germany, where it reaches it peak frequency. I2b is found spread across a broad area of NW Europe including the British Isles, where it has been brought by numerous historical migrations.
This product will be of interest to those who have strong evidence from previous DNA testing (from Y-SNP or Y-STR markers) that they belong to haplogroup I2b.
*I2b was formally known as I1b2.
EthnoAncestry offers three testing options for haplogroup I2b:
I2b Subgroup Test
This I2b product tests S23, the marker developed at EthnoAncestry which defines the I2b group and all known downstream markers. Testing also covers:
- M284 (defining haplogroup I2b1a) is a marker for the indigenous population of the British Isles, including the Picts in modern day Scotland.
- P78 (defining haplogroup I2b1c) marks a small group of Eastern European origin.
- M379 (defining haplogroup I2b1b) has been observed in Pakistan.
The full list of Y-SNPs tested in the I2b subgroup test is as follows:
S23, S24, M223, M284, M379, P78 & P95.
You will receive an official certificate depicting the results of your testing.

I2b research SNP testing
EthnoAncestry is pleased to announce the development of 4 new Y-SNPs from Perlegen in haplogroup I2b – S117, S118, S119 and S120.
We are in the process of testing where these markers fit into the ISOGG Y chromosome phylogenetic tree. For those who are adventuresome and wish to be part of the research process EthnoAncestry have, with the encouragement of a prominent haplogroup I researcher, decided to make these available for a limited time only sale price.
Although we expect that many of these Y-SNPs will be redundant (e.g. equivalent to S24 and M223) we may find that there are clusters of people who are positive or negative for each of the new Y-SNPs. Please do consider joining us in this research effort which ultimately result in each Y-SNP being properly placed on "the tree".

I2b research SNPs S150-S157
Analysis of Illumina gene chip results has identified a number of interesting new Y chromosome markers in and around haplogroup I2b
S150 and S153 appear to be near S23 in the Y tree - these will be of interest to I2* (formerly Iy), as they may split the various subgroups of this paragroup. S151, S152 and S157 appear to be near M223 in the Y tree - these will be of interest to I2b1, as they may split off an early branching subgroup S154, S155 and S156 appear to identify members of the I2b* group (formerly Ix), and so if verified, would allow this group to be renamed I2b2.
The full list of Y-SNPs tested is as follows:
S150, S151, S152, S153, S154, S155, S156 & S157.
