YSTR18 Test

The YSTR18 test is made up of the following STR markers:

DYS594	DYS556	DYS575	DYS578	DYS589	DYS549	DYS636	DYS638	DYS641

The highlighted markers are not tested by any other company.

Of the 18 markers DYS481, DYS406S1, DYS522, DYS589,DYS 549, DYS533 and DYS505 are relatively fast mutating, while DYS641, DYS575, DYS638, DYS494 and DYS578 are relatively slow.

Adding these 18 markers to a haplotype will refine the matches and so help identify those that are related within a given timeframe. The extra resolution provided by these markers may allow different branches of one ancient family to be identified.
