Genetic Genealogy Tests

Our goal is to go beyond the basic DNA tests offered by other companies with bold new innovations in ancestry testing and interpretation. Paternal ancestry tests (Y chromosome).

We offer a variety of tests, both SNP and STR. These tests can only be taken by men, we suggest women recruit a brother or other male line relative to be tested.

Never taken a Y chromosome test before? For an overview of which Y chromosome group you belong to, choose the Haploview SNP test. To find genetic matches and your inferred haplogroup (from your 27 marker haplotype), choose YSTR27. A number of genetic signatures may be identified with this test including the Pictish, Viking, Niall of the Nine Hostages and Genghis Khan types (see here for a full list). For the highest resolution YSTR test available at EthnoAncestry, choose YSTR45. If you have read the book 'The Origins of the British' and are interested in being tested try our Oppenheimer Clan testing.

Already taken a Y chromosome test? Then refine your haplogroup by taking one of our Deep Haplogroup SNP tests. If you know which individual SNP or SNPs would you like to test, choose a Custom SNP test. To extend your STR haplotype in order to refine your matches, take the YSTR18 test (with 10 markers not tested by other companies - for only these markers, choose STR upgrade). Oppenheimer Clan interpretation is also available for those having already undergone the relevant microsatellite genotyping.

Maternal ancestry tests (mtDNA).

These tests can be taken by both men and women.

Never taken an mtDNA test before? Ethnoancestry tests a very variable section of the mtDNA (hypervariable region 1), along with selected other regions which allow many different lineages to be distinguished. We will also infer which haplogroup your mtDNA lineage belongs to. The mtDNA test provides information on both your deep ancestry and would allow you to identify more recent matches.

Already taken an mtDNA test? Then refine your haplotype by taking our HVS2 test. For the highest resolution test available at EthnoAncestry choose HVS combined. If your mtDNA belongs to mtDNA haplogroup H, the most common group in Europe, take the mtDNA H subgroup test to discover which of 31 recently discovered subgroups of group H you belong to.

Coming soon: Total genomic ancestry test.

A test of the percentage ancestry from different continental groups - African, Native American, East Asian, Pacific Islander and Western Eurasian. This test can be taken by both men and women.
